house music maestro louie vega returns to nurvous to remix disco hit ‘up jumped the devil’ by john davis & the monster orchestra. originally released in 1977 on sam records, ‘up jumped the devil’ featured music performances from some of philly’s finest musicians, many of whom also featured on albums by the salsoul orchestra. among them were michael “sugar bear” foreman on bass, drummer charles collins and guitarist dennis harris. percussion came from larry washington, whilst don renaldo provided the strings and horns. with a rugged and rough rhythm section and blazing horn parts, the track was an absolute bomb amongst disco djs at the time and continues to shine as a gem today.

in 2011 jaki whitren & john cartwrights original international times lp saw a release on emotional rescue after originally hitting the shelves in 1982. the pair are now part of a remix ep by misericord and one-time internasjonal producer al usher, who supplies two remixes and a dub, while a spacey aphophenia dub to the track times has added for extra measure. ushers first rework of stay cool sounds like a 2013 meeting between a purple-clad prince and a young diana ross, while the dub version sees princes funk make way for giorgio moroder sound design. on the flip is a acoustic-leaning and inspirational this time, which could easily soundtrack a mesmeric highway-driving scene from thelma & louise.

new years deal - after recording tapes & cd-rs at home since 1994 in france, the first release of violence fm on vinyl appears tardily on mathematics recordings in 2009. in 2010, he has released a amazing ep on the french label premier sang that reminded us the work of the detroit pioneers especially derrick may & the genius of new wave new order. rhythm playing and drum-machines programmings, editing, mix and mastering, his compositions are often inspired by tribal spirits, organic deep bass and melodies, oscillating beetween smoothie and energy, or both.

futuristic-funk starchild jimmy edgar returns with the third single to be taken form his recent album >majenta< out earlier this year on hotflush. this time edgar shoves is free-spirited sexual appetite in your face, with a slice of stripped-down, upfront electro-funk complete with j.g. ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism. alongside the original album cut, two alternate takes are reworked by a pair of producers at the very top of their game: jon convex and john talabot. whilst talabot creates an eerie and downright epic re-imagining through his combination of amazonian electronics and volume manipulation, the convex cut enhances the dance floor potential of the original with bubbling, arpeggiated 303 bass.
